Portolan registry

The Portolan registry is a catalog of independently hosted catalogs and a first step toward a federated network for geospatial data. It makes interoperable catalogs from many publishers searchable in one place while the underlying data remain distributed and are queried directly from the source.

Some of these catalogs are unofficial mirrors maintained by volunteers. We expect mirrors to be replaced by official catalogs as publishers adopt the Portolan specification.
